Sensory room and Arts & Craft section
The FGC has initiated, in 2019, several projects with the financial assistance of the former NCSR Fund, namely the introduction of the Sankore support programme, the creation of a sensory room, the acquisition of tools and equipment for the woodcraft workshop and the uplifting of the Arts & Craft section. These long awaited projects have been beneficial to our pupils on account of their therapeutical benefits. Pupils have interiorized the positive issues as testified by their behaviour, their attitude, their self-confidence, their ease at mastering numeracy and literacy as well as the quality of the finished products of both the wood and arts and crafts units.
The Sankore project was initiated as an educational support to pragmatic academic teaching and technical training for light mentally/intellectually handicapped children with a view to facilitate their integration in society and in the labour market through a twofold avenue. This programme, devised by UNESCO and supported by Government, is implemented with the assistance of the Mauritius Institute of Education (MIE), supplier of the software.
The sensory unit has created a multi-sensory interactive learning environment as a recognised supplement to the existing educational and psychological programme for light mentally and intellectually deficient children thus leading them to a most effective integration in society. This unit operates under the supervision of a fully qualified Occupational Therapist.
New School Van
A new van, has also been acquired in February 2020 to improve the comfort and travelling environment of our pupils to and from school and for moving them around for outings and sports activities
Music room
A new building has been constructed, with the financial assistance of the Mauritius Round Table 7 to host a fully equipped music classroom. The support of volunteered music teachers will be looked for.
New School Website
As from 2021, the school has a new website that will serve to better situate the FGC.
